May 2022 Actions

Action 1: Hold the president accountable for environmental justice promises.

Background:
The people of Appalachia face threats to their water, land and lives from the incomplete fracked gas Mountain Valley Pipeline. Ask President Biden to stand up to fulfill his climate promises – as he did when he canceled Keystone XL.

Contact:
President Biden via the White House contact form (preferred) or at

The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W.
Washington, DC 20500

Script:
§Hello, I’m contacting you from [STATE] in support of halting construction on the Mountain Valley Pipeline. This pipeline has already been fined millions of dollars for environmental damages, and will further jeopardize surrounding communities, ecosystems, and endangered species if previously revoked federal permits are approved. I urge President Biden to take immediate action to protect our land and waters by denying key permits for the Mountain Valley Pipeline. Thank you!

Action 2: Demand the Closure of an Abusive Detention Center

Contact: The Department of Homeland Security at (202) 282-8495 or DHSSecrectary@HQ.DHS.gov.

Script: Hello, I’m contacting you from [STATE] asking you to immediately terminate ICE’s contract with the Glades County Detention Center in Florida. ICE officials at Glades have a long and troubling history of perpetuating human rights abuses. I am repeating the call of those detained and their loved ones in urging you to cancel—not just limit—your contract with Glades County, and immediately release all those who

Action 3: Demand Congress Support Abortion Access Legislation

Background:
On 09/24/21, with a 218-211 vote, the House passed the Women’s Health Protection Act (H.R. 3755) which creates new legal protections for both providers and patients of abortion care at the federal level. This bill safeguards access to abortion in every state against restrictions such as six-week and 15-week bans, mandatory delay periods, biased counseling, and medically unnecessary ultrasounds. On 02/28/22, in a 48-46 vote, the Senate has rejected H.R. 3755.

Call:
Elizabeth Warren DC 202-224-4543; Springfield 413-788-2690

Ed Markey DC 202-224-2742; Springfield 413-785-4610

Script: Hello. My name is [NAME], and my address is [___]. I'm calling the Senator, in his role as majority leader, to urge him to support S.2747, the Freedom to Vote Act. Protecting voting rights, reducing partisan gerrymandering, and reducing corruption are nonpartisan priorities that make our democracy better for all Americans, regardless of their political affiliation.
